Canadian miner Tinka Resources (TSX-V: TK) has officially started drilling at its Silvia Gold-Copper Project in central Peru, marking the company’s first-ever exploration campaign at the promising site. The program targets skarn and porphyry-style mineralisation within one of South America’s most prospective mineral belts.
The initial phase includes four diamond drill holes, each planned to reach depths of up to 400 meters, focusing on Area A, one of several mineralized zones extending along a 4-kilometre northeast trend. The first assay results are expected by the end of 2025, with additional results scheduled for early 2026.
“Our team, with the assistance of local stakeholders, have done a fantastic job to prepare the site for the drill program on time and on budget,” said Graham Carman, President and CEO of Tinka Resources. “The drill rig will be operating 24/7 until late December.”
The Silvia Project lies within a world-class gold, copper, and base metal belt, approximately 100 kilometres south of Antamina, one of the largest copper-zinc skarn deposits globally. According to Carman, Silvia represents an “untested but highly compelling” exploration opportunity with multiple targets still to be assessed.
Tinka’s geologists have identified three priority zones – Areas A, B, and C – all showing signs of strong gold and copper mineralisation associated with monzonite porphyry intrusions within thick limestone formations.
At surface, rock and trench sampling have yielded impressive grades, including:
Tinka Resources, already known for its Ayawilca zinc-silver project, continues to position itself as one of the leading base and precious metals explorers in Peru. The Silvia drilling campaign underscores the company’s commitment to advancing its portfolio of high-quality exploration assets while strengthening relationships with local communities.
“Silvia is a highly prospective project with geological similarities to some of the largest skarn deposits in the Andes,” Carman noted. “We’re excited to finally put the drill bit to work and unlock its potential.”
