Fitzroy Minerals has announced new exploration results from its Buen Retiro copper project, located near Copiapó in Chile’s Atacama Region, reporting an intercept of 384 metres grading 0.23% copper from 4 metres, including 94 metres grading 0.33% copper from 30 metres. The result comes from drill hole BRT-DDH045, one of the most significant intercepts outlined in the company’s latest project update.
According to Fitzroy Minerals, hole BRT-DDH045 in the northern part of the project first intersected a stockwork zone with minor brecciation before entering a Candelaria-style stratiform copper system, with chalcopyrite mineralization remaining consistent throughout the interval. In the same update, the company also reported results from hole BRT-DDH044, which returned a best interval of 10 metres grading 0.30% copper from 142 metres.
A key takeaway from the announcement is that the company is now advancing an infill drilling campaign using two diamond drill rigs as it works toward delivering a maiden mineral resource estimate ahead of a potential pre-feasibility study (PFS). Fitzroy said drill holes 46 through 60 have already been completed, with samples continuing to be submitted for assay on an ongoing basis.
The company noted that the current infill program comprises roughly 6,000 metres of drilling and is expected to be completed in April. After that, one of the rigs will continue into a deeper exploration phase targeting sulphide mineralization, within a broader program planned for at least 8,000 metres, with flexibility to expand up to 15,000 metres.
Fitzroy Minerals also said it has completed a 2,800-kilogram bulk sample of mineralized material, which will be used for heap leach metallurgical testing at SGS laboratories, with testing scheduled to begin in late March. In addition, the company is preparing to launch a passive seismic noise tomography survey by Fleet Space Technologies, aimed at improving structural interpretation and helping define deeper drill targets.
Fitzroy Minerals President and CEO Merlin Marr-Johnson said drilling at Buen Retiro is delivering compelling evidence that the asset may be part of a large-scale copper system. The company also highlighted the project’s infrastructure advantages, including its low elevation, brownfield setting, proximity to the Pan-American Highway, power lines, the coast and the mining hub of Copiapó.
In parallel, Fitzroy said that at its Caballos project, also in Chile, it has completed an airborne MobileMT geophysical survey, with data now being interpreted to define the next drilling phase later this year.
Buen Retiro is part of Fitzroy Minerals’ Chilean copper project portfolio and is located in one of the country’s best-known mining districts. The company is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol FTZ and on OTCQX under the ticker FTZFF.
