Argentina’s mining exports hit $4.21 billion in the first nine months of 2025, up 33% year-on-year — driven by strong gold, silver, and lithium performance.

Argentina’s mining industry reached a historic milestone in 2025, with total exports hitting $4.21 billion between January and September — a 32.9% increase compared to the same period last year, according to official figures released Monday by the country’s Mining Secretariat.

Record-setting growth for the sector

The report highlights that this is the highest export value ever recorded for Argentina’s mining sector during the first nine months of a year. The surge was driven primarily by elevated international prices for gold and silver, as well as by increasing volumes of lithium exports.

“The rise in export value is linked to outstanding international prices and expanding production, particularly in the lithium sector,” the secretariat said.

Lithium and the energy transition

Argentina remains a critical player in the global energy transition, ranking as the fifth-largest lithium producer and holding the second-largest reserves worldwide. Currently, seven lithium projects are in operation across the country’s “lithium triangle,” shared with Chile and Bolivia.

Authorities noted that the increase in mining export value “is closely tied to the growth of lithium output,” though detailed figures for lithium shipments were not disclosed.

Copper projects on the horizon

While gold, silver, and lithium dominate current exports, Argentina is also advancing six world-class copper projects in various stages of development. These include initiatives in San Juan, Catamarca, and Salta provinces, positioning the country to become a future copper supplier in the global market — a key metal for electrification and renewable energy infrastructure.

Mining as a driver of economic growth

The mining boom has become a pillar of Argentina’s export strategy, offering a much-needed source of foreign currency amid economic challenges. The government has emphasized the importance of mining in diversifying the national economy and attracting foreign investment.

If current trends continue, Argentina’s mining exports could close 2025 with another record, reinforcing its growing role in the global supply of critical minerals.
