Codelco names Gonzalo Lara Skiba as VP to head integration at its Andina mine, advancing a shared plan with Anglo American’s Los Bronces. Cesar Jimenez Soto to lead Ministro Hales as interim GM.

Codelco, the world’s largest copper producer, has appointed Gonzalo Lara Skiba as vice president of integration for its Andina Division, where he will oversee the implementation of a shared mine plan with Anglo American’s Los Bronces operation in central Chile.

Strengthening collaboration between neighboring mines

The move marks a significant step in the strategic cooperation agreement signed between Codelco and Anglo American earlier this year to coordinate operations at the adjacent Andina and Los Bronces mines, both located high in the Andes northeast of Santiago.

“This vice presidency faces the challenge of transforming the strategic agreement into concrete and sustainable operations,” Codelco said in an official statement.

The new integration effort aims to optimize resources, reduce environmental impact, and enhance long-term production efficiency across one of Chile’s most geologically complex copper belts. Industry analysts say the partnership could also help both companies navigate increasingly strict water and permitting regulations in the region.

Leadership transition at Ministro Hales mine

As part of the reshuffle, Cesar Jimenez Soto will assume Lara Skiba’s current role as interim general manager of Ministro Hales, another key Codelco mine located in Chile’s northern Antofagasta region, beginning in November.

Lara Skiba, an experienced mining engineer, has previously led operational transformation and asset integration projects across multiple Codelco divisions. His new role is expected to be pivotal in coordinating technical, operational, and environmental planning between the two mining giants.

The integration between Andina and Los Bronces is seen as a model for collaborative mining in Chile, as companies seek to balance productivity with environmental and social commitments.
