Minera Los Pelambres, operated by Antofagasta Minerals, has successfully concluded its latest collective bargaining process with the Supervisors’ Union, resulting in a new three-year labor contract that strengthens benefits, pay structures, and long-term cooperation between both parties.
The agreement, reached after a regulated negotiation process that began on August 12 and concluded on October 9, includes improvements to base salaries as well as fixed and variable benefits for all supervisors affiliated with the union.
Each member will also receive a CLP $28 million (approx. USD $30,000) end-of-negotiation bonus — among the highest in Chile’s mining industry — alongside a payment for the renewal of exceptional work shifts and an unrestricted personal loan.
Alejandro Vásquez, Vice President of Operations and General Manager of Minera Los Pelambres, praised the spirit of collaboration during the negotiations:
“We appreciate the effort and commitment shown by both negotiating teams and invite all supervisors to continue working together to make Minera Los Pelambres a safer, more productive, and sustainable company,” Vásquez said.
He emphasized that the company is confident the new agreement “balances the objectives of supervisors with the current realities and future projections of the operation.”
Union representatives described the outcome as “a triumph for this organization,” highlighting the months of preparation, assemblies, and unity that led to the agreement.
“We achieved meaningful gains in base salaries, quarterly and annual bonuses, vacation benefits, educational scholarships, maternity protections, and compensation for women during pre- and postnatal periods,” the union stated. “This is not only a financial victory but also a message to management that Los Pelambres depends on the contribution of its supervisors. Without real leadership transformation, production targets will remain out of reach.”
The successful conclusion of the 2025 collective bargaining process at Minera Los Pelambres, one of Chile’s largest copper operations, underscores the critical role of labor relations in maintaining operational stability across the country’s mining sector.
