Antofagasta plc CEO and ICMM Chair Iván Arriagada has been confirmed as a plenary speaker at World Mining Congress 2026 in Lima (June 24–26), focused on trust, transformation and technology.

Iván Arriagada, CEO of Antofagasta plc and Chair of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), has been confirmed as a plenary speaker at the 27th World Mining Congress (WMC) 2026, to be held in Lima, Peru, from June 24–26, 2026.

Organizers say Arriagada’s participation aligns with the event’s central theme—“Mining for the Future: Trust, Transformation & Technology”—and the wider industry challenge of supplying the minerals needed for electrification under stricter performance, sustainability and social expectations.

A global platform: ICMM leadership and responsible mining standards

ICMM announced on Dec. 11, 2025 that its council elected Arriagada as Chair effective immediately for a two-year term, underscoring the role’s focus on collaboration and higher industry standards.

Industry coverage of the WMC update highlights that, as ICMM Chair, Arriagada brings a global perspective “at the intersection of performance and responsibility,” and will help explore how mining can accelerate mineral supply while building trust and lasting value for communities and regions.

WMC 2026: convening governments, companies and investors

WMC 2026 is positioning itself as a meeting point for governments, miners, investors and technology leaders, with a program designed to debate how the sector can balance speed and scale with sustainability and stronger social outcomes.
