Vicuña has secured approval for the first and second updates to the Environmental Impact Report for the Josemaría deposit, marking a key milestone for the project’s long-term development. The updated report incorporates new studies and technical analyses aimed at optimizing the project’s design, strengthening its environmental performance and supporting its future growth.
Among the most significant changes is the extension of the projected mine life from 19 years to 25 years, along with an increase in ore processing capacity, reinforcing the project’s scale and long-term strategic value.
The approved Environmental Impact Report updates allow the project to incorporate important adjustments based on new technical data and specialized evaluations. These changes are intended to improve operational planning and provide a stronger foundation for Josemaría’s future development.
The longer mine life and expanded processing capacity reshape the outlook for the deposit, supporting a longer-term vision and enhancing its role within Vicuña’s growth pipeline.
On the environmental front, one of the most relevant additions is a multi-source water design, aimed at optimizing water use and reducing pressure on local aquifers.
According to the company, the updated plan includes new water supply sources and an estimated 73% recovery of process water, reinforcing its commitment to responsible water management, one of the most sensitive issues in large-scale mining development.
These improvements are designed to strengthen the project’s environmental standards and better address the technical and territorial requirements associated with its execution.
The update also includes progress in project-related infrastructure. In particular, Sections B, C and D cover the stretch connecting Junta La Palca and La Majadita, representing the most extensive construction challenge.
This segment includes approximately 107.4 kilometres of construction, involving large-scale earthworks, civil structures, drainage systems and containment works.
In total, the infrastructure exceeds 170 kilometres, creating a critical access network to support the project’s long-term sustainability and operational continuity.
The company said these advances support Vicuña’s growth and strengthen its long-term outlook, creating new opportunities linked to employment, supplier development and regional economic activity.
The milestone was presented as the result of sustained work by the teams behind the project, with a focus on responsible development and a commitment to high technical and environmental standards.
With this approval, Josemaría takes another step forward, consolidating improvements in design, water management and infrastructure while strengthening its potential contribution to regional mining and economic development.
